How to choose the right planner size

A planner can look beautiful online and still feel wrong once you start using it.

Sometimes there is enough space, but the planner never leaves your desk. Sometimes it fits into your bag, but the pages feel too small after a few days.

The right size becomes clearer when you look at how you actually use your planner.

Start with real use.
How much you write.
Where you plan.
How often you carry it with you.
How quickly you want to find what you need.
That is where the size decision starts.

01 | Start with your everyday use

Do you need room to write?

Choose a larger or wider size if you write longer notes, plan projects, use lists often or like your pages to feel open.

This usually points to A5, Personal Wide or Franklin Covey Compact.

Do you want to carry your planner with you?

Choose a smaller size if your planner should feel light, compact and easy to take with you.

This usually points to Personal, A6, Pocket Plus or Pocket.

02 | Size overview

A5

A5 gives you the most writing space in this guide.

A good fit for desk planning, business planning, longer notes and larger sections.

Personal Wide

Personal Wide offers more room than Personal, while still feeling smaller than A5.

A good choice if you want wider pages without carrying a larger planner.

Franklin Covey Compact

Franklin Covey Compact has more space than Personal.

It suits clear sections and more writing room without moving into A5.

Personal

Personal is a classic everyday size.

A balanced choice for appointments, lists and notes while still being easy to carry.

A6

A6 feels compact, but still has enough space for daily notes.

A good option if you want something smaller with room for daily notes.

Pocket Plus

Pocket Plus is small and light, with a little more room than Pocket.

Best for a simple setup with a few clear sections.

Pocket

Pocket is the smallest size in this guide.

Best for short notes, simple lists and a planner you want to keep very compact.

03 | Quick decision guide

  • Choose A5 if you want generous writing space and your planner usually stays on your desk.
  • Choose Personal Wide or Franklin Covey Compact if you want more room than Personal without choosing A5.
  • Choose Personal if you want a balanced everyday planner.
  • Choose A6 if you want something compact with useful page space.
  • Choose Pocket Plus or Pocket if you want something small, light and simple.

If writing often feels cramped, choose more space. If larger planners usually stay at home, choose something smaller.

04 | Before you choose

Think about where your planner will be most of the time.

On your desk. In your bag. Next to your laptop. On the kitchen table. Always with you. Then think about what you actually write down.

Long notes, project plans and many sections usually need more room. Appointments, short lists and simple planning can work well in a smaller size.
